The Riesling grape is one of the most characteristic of the area of Naturno. Located in Val Venosta, Franz Pratzner, owner of the farmhouse Falkenstein, produces its own version of this local variety, called by many as the top of the Riesling expression in the region and in the whole Italy. Only recently the activity of the farmhouse Falkenstein is dedicated to viticulture: previous production was concentrated on the cultivation of apples, an activity also typical of Val Venosta.
If correctly stored, it can age for up to 15 years.
Why have we selected this wine?
This Riesling is, in particular, an austere and complex wine, with a profile of great elegance and a vibrant finish with mineral hints. Glass after glass it is possible to sense the echo of a border territory, capable of creating products with an unmistakable identity.
Franz Praztner
Fifteen years ago Franz Pratzner decided to start making wine from the seven hectares of vineyards surrounding the farmhouse Falkenstein, distributed between 500 and 900 meters above the sea level, with slopes that make any work quite challenging, although possible thanks to the terraces drawn with patience over time. The Riesling grapes accounts for about half of the surrounding Falkenstein vineyards, boasting optimal exposures to the south and a soil particularly rich in minerals. The wines of Falkenstein, created from a real form of heroic viticulture, wear a stylistic mark of profound expressiveness, according to a German style more than an Italian one.
