100% Oltrepò Rhine Riesling with mineral, yellow fruit, sulfur and hydrocarbon notes.
The vineyard, adjacent to the farm, was called "the doctor's field" because around the middle of the twentieth century the owner was the town doctor. The wine comes from a selection of only Rhine Riesling grapes grown at an altitude of about 280 meters above sea level. and vinified in steel. Campo Dottore has a marked minerality even in the driest years thanks to the large temperature range from which the vineyard benefits and to the copious amount of limestone present in the soil.
Why have we selected this wine?
Oltrepò Pavese, an area full of potential yet to be discovered.
The region is an historical wine area that -for its soils and climate- can sometimes reminds some areas in France. That is why grapes such as Pinot Nero and Riesling dominate the wine-scene. Another peculiarity of this area are the sparkling wines: with the Metodo Classico style Champagne standing out for personality and quality.
The Calatroni family
The Calatroni winery was founded in 1964 by Luigi Calatroni, now in its third generation. The farm today combines the experience of tradition with the modern oenological passion and agronomic techniques of the brothers Cristian and Stefano. Continuous technical improvements and qualitative progress have allowed the full exploitation of the grapes from their vineyards, located in the municipality of Montecalvo Versiggia at an altitude between 180 and 320 m.s.l.m., in an area particularly suited for the cultivation of various vines such as Riesling and Pinot Nero.
