Piripicchio is a pure Nerello Mascalese (and some local wild grapes growing next to the vines). We are on Etna (Sicily), in “contrada” Pignatone and San Lorenzo on an altitude between 500/600mt -North East side of the active volcano-.  It has an elegant ruby red colour. Pleasantly complex, the olfactory bouquet, fruity -memories of black cherries, plums and cherries-, to which are added balsamic nuances and references to tobacco and leather. The sip is full and soft in the tannic texture, rightly fresh and slightly mineral. Excellent length.

Produced in 2000 bottles.

Why have we selected this wine?

Micro production, carefully manually carried out at each step. Sustainability that does not need any certification when you do all naturally and with the only hands as machines.

On Etna, each single vineyard has its own organoleptic profile and taste. This is due to the fact that the soil changes every 100mt: based on the age of the lava, on the altitude and on the exposition to sun. For this reason wines on Etna are often result of single vineyards as it is very hard to mix and find the perfect balance.

However, with "I Suoli" the 3 friends wanted to do something different. They therefore assembled grapes from the best vineyards from the best "contrade" of the North East side of Etna.

Simply Etna's biodiversity quintessence.

3 friends and masters on Etna

When talking about Etna, the link with Girolamo Russo and Emiliano Falsini is immediate. Russo, indeed, is one of the most acclaimed producers on the Sicilian volcano while Emiliano is the oenologist for the most important wineries on Etna. The third person taking part to this new exciting project is Dante Pasqua who is also a winemaker on Etna and very close friend of Giuseppe Russo.

"It is an idea born a few years ago. Making wine it makes you want to broaden your horizon. Basically there is the desire to have fun. It all started almost as a joke with the strong desire to do something different. Experimenting is our mission. And in fact with "I Suoli" (the soils) whose name already says a lot about how attached we are to the territory, a way to highlight the biodiversity that the volcano possesses and proposes" -Giuseppe Russo
