La Gera is a 100% Chardonnay wine from Alto Piemonte. In Ossolane dialect, ‘gera’ means ‘stony ground’, reflecting the rocky, glacial-marine soils of this small, east facing vineyard in Oira.

The aromas are delicate and rocky, citrus puffs reveal a taut mouth-feel and sapid notes make La Gera a gastronomic wine. The drinking mouthfeel is pounding and sustained by an intense freshness.

You can see the ten year old, terraced Chardonnay vines from the ancient Garrone cellar (and the village cheese cave!). Made elegantly, the juice stays in contact with skins for a few hours before slow fermentation between 15-18 degrees.

2000 bottles.

Why have we selected this wine?

Matteo's work in this mountain Chardonnay is intended to reflect the characteristics of the soil and the mountain land; preferring stainless steel over oak to tell the story.

If you look for a fat, oaky chardonnay you will might end up disappointed. For those instead that wants to taste a unique and elegant Chardonnay, then this is your call.

Cantine Garrone
Cantine Garrone hails from the heart of one of the wildest and most secluded Alpine valleys of extreme Northern Piemonte, right near the Sempione Pass on the border with Switzerland, called the VAL D'OSSOLA ('Ossolanum' as the Romans used to call it, meaning "high ground").Family owned and operated for generations, Cantine Garrone acts as the only cooperative winemaking and commercialising facility for the myriad of mountain grape growers that are scattered throughout the steep slopes of this rugged and untamed territory. Here, the history and uniqueness of wine is more ancient than ancient Rome. The local association of agricultural growers (about 60) teamed with Cantine Garrone in the 90's to begin a recovery and clean-up of these very old local vineyards and restart the production of a hallmark historical wine that spurred the introduction by the Italian government of the 'Valli Ossolane' DOC appellation in 2009, making it the absolute most northern and Alpine denomination of Piemonte.
