Kollektion: Casa Brecceto - Campania
We take great pride in presenting you with the enchanting wines of Casa Brecceto. Situated in the town of Ariano Irpino, elevated in the Apennine Mountains of central Campania at an impressive altitude of over 700 meters.
Casa Brecceto, the winery as it is currently recognized, was established in 2018 by a small collective of local friends/winemakers/agro-enologists. However, their journey began more than two decades ago as the "Arajani Enoprogetto," exploring the wine potential of their ancient surroundings in the Ariano Irpino and Irpina River valley. Oto Tortorella (who passed away in 2020), Fortunato Sebastiano, and Igor Grassi founded the group in 2001. For the past twenty years, this group has been laboring with indigenous grape varieties in secluded and often neglected vineyard sites deep in the remote areas of Campania. Until 2018, they quietly produced "garagist" style wines in extremely limited quantities. These wines exemplified the potential of the land, grapes, and their winemaking expertise, as they experimented simultaneously with fermentation, aging vessels, and agricultural techniques. The wines never ventured beyond a few local trattorie or the company of curious friends and wine enthusiasts... until now! The newly established and more official Casa Brecceto winery is now led by Maria Teresa Ciccarelli (preferably referred to as MTC) and receives agronomic guidance from Fortunato Sebastiano.
At present, Casa Brecceto possesses just over 2 hectares of vineyards and cultivates an additional 2 hectares in collaboration with local farmers in and around their village. They engage with native grape varieties such as Fiano, Greco, Coda di Volpe, Piedirosso, Aglianico, and Sciascinoso, resulting in a total production of approximately 8500 bottles. The land is tended using a combination of certified organic practices and, when necessary, biodynamic preparations. The soil composition comprises a blend of diverse calcium-rich clays, volcanic sand, and marne deposits, contributing to the creation of exceptionally intricate wines.
In the cellar, they employ spontaneous fermentation and add minimal sulfur only when required. Vinification occurs in small, open-top fermenters without temperature regulation, utilizing a mix of destemmed and whole cluster fruit for different wines. Aging transpires in a combination of stainless steel, amphora vessels, and traditional "botti grandi" oak barrels, depending on the specific wine being crafted.
