San Rumé is a pure Barbera d'Asti red wine. Barbera, due it's lower complexity and rounded taste has gained the name "wine of the people" in Piemonte.
Intense ruby-red colour with garnet reflections with notes of cooked fruit and with a slight hint of vanilla. The drink is rounded, full body and easy; helped by its extra maturation in wood that is required by the Superiore denomination. Intense taste with a definite rounded aftertaste.
Why have we selected this wine?
This micro-produced and handmade Barbera comes from a very special wine area. Cisterna d'Asti is indeed one of the most unique production area in Piemonte. We are in the Asti commune north of Langhe. The vineyards are on the right side of the Tanaro river -which divides the Roero from Terre Alfieri/Asti.
Even though this wine can be fully enjoyed know, we suggest to keep couple of bottle in your cellar for 5/6 years.
The Bossotti family
Vincenzo and Giovanna, together with their children Cristina, her husband Davide, have been making wine in this wine amphitheatre since 2000.
The small winery is in Cisterna d’Asti, a small village that is 375 metres above sea level, in the province of Asti on the border of the province of Cuneo. Vincenzo vineyards cover a surface of about 9 hectares in the newly established Terre Alfieri DOCG. They all grown on ideal steep hills with traditional varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis and the indigenous grape Croatina. The vineyards’ soil is mostly made up of sandstone, sedimentary rocks of marine origin mixed with limestone, clay and sand, which results in a soft permeable soil. The latest technical developments are implanted in the vineyards respecting the traditional manner, using methods that have a minimal impact on the environment.
